CONCACAF Nations League: US Rally For A 2-2 Tie With El Salvador On A Late Jordan Morris Header

On a muddy, flooded pitch Tuesday night at the Estadio Cuscatlan in San Salvador, Jordan Morris came off the bench to score as the United States recovered from behind to draw 1-1 with El Salvador in the CONCACAF Nations League.

In place of Ethan Horvath, Tyler Adams, Yunus Musah, and Brenden Aaronson in midfield, Christian Pulisic and Tim Weah on the flanks, and Haji Wright at striker, US coach Gregg Berhalter made seven changes from last weekend’s 5-0 rout of No. 170 Grenada.

In the first half, both teams had chances, but it was El Salvador who took the lead before halftime when Horvath was caught off his line in the 35th minute and scored.

The Last One to Beat

To start the second half, Berhalter substituted Weston McKennie for Aaronson and Jesus Ferreira for Wright, who scored four goals in the Americans’ previous encounter against Grenada.

After some good movement with Weah, Musah struck straight at El Salvador’s Mario Gonzalez just before the hour mark, leaving him only the keeper to beat.

As reported by ESPN, Berhalter made another move with Paul Arriola coming off the bench for Weah, who looked visibly angry as he exited the field.

Arriola’s good fortune didn’t last long, as the FC Dallas forward was sent off for a violent, sliding challenge on Larin in front of the referee, reducing the United States to ten men.

El Salvador’s Ronald Rodriguez was then sent off for tripping Musah, who had an open run to goal, bringing the match to a ten vs. ten conclusion.

Luca de la Torre found Morris in the penalty area early in second-half stoppage time, and the Seattle Sounders forward soared over his defender and beat Gonzalez at the far post to tie the game.
