Motorola Moto E users have been waiting for the Android update that would give them access to Android 5.1 Lollipop for what seems like a while now. While there hasn’t been a ton of coverage on the matter, the Moto E has morphed into a pretty popular device amongst Android users. There’s a lot of reasons for this. It’s affordable, highly-functional, and gives users a lot of flexibility when it comes to running multitasking.
Interestingly though, the Moto E is one of the few devices that hasn’t seen an update to Lollipop yet here in the United States. While there have been a lot of updates to devices outside the United States, those devices here have now fallen behind, and some wonder when – or if the update will ever come. Now though, just as Motorola promised – Android 5.1 Lollipop will be making its way to Moto E devices.
For those who are waiting for the update, most users can expect it to come in two waves. First, a small, likely bridge update will come through. It will be followed by the actual update for Android Lollipop 5.1. As with everything in Lollipop, all aspects of the Moto E will be getting a significant upgrade and update. Material Design will arrive and bring the Moto E to life, and give it an entirely new perspective on things. This will be a refreshing update for anyone who was starting to regret the choice of economics over functionality.

Right now, the word is that those who are running the Verizon version of the Moto E can actually pull the software manually. While that has initially been hit or miss for some users, by an large, it would appear as though the update has arrived for that carrier. For other carriers, it might take a little longer, but finding out if your Moto E is eligible for the update is simple. Simply head over to your settings, tap on “About” and then check for the latest version of software.
At the end of the day, this is significant because it is one of the first truly budget-friendly devices that has introduced Android 5.1 Lollipop into the fold. However, nearly a year later since the operating system began making its rounds, and Google laid out lofty goals for what the company believed would be the first widely accepted and handled roll out of one of their operating systems to date. That might not have happened, or gone exactly as planned, but this is still very welcomed news for Moto E users.
