Four Reasons to Learn First Aid

If you are looking to learn a new skill this year, then first aid could be perfect for you. The basics are reasonably easy to learn and if you enjoy doing it, then you can learn as much as you want and even become an expert in the subject. You could make a career out of it and learn how to save lives. Here are four reasons to learn first aid.

To Save Lives

First and foremost, learning first aid can help you to save lives.  Whether a colleague has a heart attack at work, or you are enjoying a day out when you witness a car accident, the fact that you are in the vicinity with enough knowledge to know what to do until the ambulance arrives could be the difference between life and death for someone.

To Give You Confidence

Learning first aid will give you the confidence to tackle situations head-on. This might mean a first aid crisis, but it could be something else entirely. For example, if you have been on a first aid course where you have had to share your newfound skills with the rest of your class, this will give you the confidence to speak or perform in front of people.

The confidence you will build up from learning first aid will teach you to stay calm in a crisis. After all, if you know how to stop someone’s leg from pouring with blood, dealing with an angry customer or a traffic jam is going to be easy.

To Prevent Accidents

Learning first aid will help you to avoid accidents. This might mean that you are more aware of the child safety measures you could take around the kids or you might think about ways to make your office safer to avoid workplace accidents. Prevention is better than cure and if you are well prepared with a cupboard full of everything you need from a medical supply company and a plan about how to tackle a crisis, the chances are you will never need it.  However, if called upon, you know would have the skills and training to do a great job.

For Recognition

As well as being an incredibly useful skill, a first aid qualification is a great thing to be able to put on your CV. This could be the difference between whether you land your dream job or not. Some companies will even pay you more if you know first aid and you are willing to act as a first aider at work.  You may never need the skills, but the pay rise could come in handy.

First aid is such an important skill, and it is fantastic if you know how to use it. Not only will you be able to save someone’s life, but it will teach you a lot of soft skills such as confidence too. This will stand you in good stead whether you are in the middle of a medical emergency or not.
