OnePlus Google Cardboard for $0 plus shipping offer is out of stock, For Now

After launching a smartphone (Oneplus One) with a reasonable price and astonishingly attractive features, OnePlus is now all set to mesmerize its audience with Virtual Reality. It is now selling a modified version of Google’s Cardboard virtual reality headset for free with trivial $5 shipping charges.

While the other vendors are selling their Cardboard viewers for $20 or more, OnePlus is giving their headsets for free. The Chinese manufacturer states in its blog that this is an initiative and it is not making any money by offering the Cardboard. Although the company made the headset on their own, it is very similar to the second-gen version of Cardboard unveiled at Google I/O a month ago and meets all its latest norms and specs.

However, this model differs from the original Cardboard 2.0 as it is made of a stronger and thicker material and has added high-quality velcro for maximum durability. Moreover, it is 20 percent smaller and is coated in a distinct film. According to the blog, every inch of the board has been coated with a special film that repels dirt and oils, creating a premium feel that lasts and prevents forehead stains from spoiling its beauty. The OnePlus Cardboard is also compatible with most devices up to 6” in size. The Cardboard viewer may also have the OnePlus logo pasted at several places.

The company has decided to choose just 1000 winners at random for its initial device sale. One needs to create an account on their site to win their offer and order one from the Oneplus store here*. It may display the ‘Sold Out’ message, but there is a possibility of releasing it in phases. Alternatively, the Cardboard can be bought from Amazon at a reasonable price since it was said that the contest was open till 3rd July. The virtual reality cardboard viewers will be shipped to winners on 10th July next week. The contest was held mainly to captivate the public just before the launch of its second generation phone OnePlus One 2 whose global debut will take place on 27th July.

The Android up-and-coming OEM will unveil the OnePlus One 2 phone at 7:00 pm PT on July 27 in a live stream which will be conducted using 360- degree virtual reality cameras which is exactly why they are giving out 1000 in-house Cardboard headsets for free. This will certainly ensure a large population watching the live streaming.

The use of VR technology is indeed an innovative way to launch a smartphone and this Chinese technology startup is doing it the right way to get the attention of its audience.
