Recalled Onion Brand From Florida Publix Stores Due To Probable Listeria Contamination

On Thursday, a Georgia onion grower issued a recall for some raw onions that might have been listeria-contaminated.

Vidalia Onion: What Is It?

As per the Vidalia Onion Grower’s Association, one of the specific types of onion is the Vidalia onion. According to Vidalia’s Finest, Vidalia onions are known for their mild, sweet flavor and slightly flat shape. They have a notably sweet flavor because of the low sulfur content of the Georgian ground where they are cultivated. In addition, it can be sliced and consumed like apples. They can only be grown in the sandy loamy land found in just 20 regions in Georgia, which all have mild climates. And since 1930, only seeds that adhere to strict legal requirements have been used to grow Vidalia onions.

The Little Bear brand Vidalia sweet onion involved in the alert was packaged between June 20 and June 23, according to A&M Farms of Lyons, Georgia.

By checking the PLU tag and ascertaining if their sale place was PLU 4159, customers can recognize the recalled onions.

From June 22 to June 24, Publix supermarkets in Florida and Georgia, as well as several other shops in Pennsylvania, New York, and Massachusetts, all sold the onions in plenty. However, as per Aries Haygood, a co-owner of A&M Farms, the majority of the impacted onions never reached the supermarkets.

Haygood claimed that they terminated packaging on the unhygienic line and that he was personally supervising a thorough sanitization and cleaning of the machinery as well as an internal evaluation of their working procedures.

A cargo of onions was also delivered to Sam’s Club distribution facility, however, Sam’s claimed that the entire batch was disposed of.

Anyone who has the prohibited goods in their possession must not eat them, according to the announcement. The item must be thrown away, but you can return it to the store where you purchased it for a refund with a receipt. Customers with inquiries can get in touch with the organization at 1-912-585-2058, M-F, 8 am – 4 pm EDT.
