Apple iPhone remains ahead of Android smartphones

The most recent data released by internet technology major comScore states that Apple Inc. once again wins the race in the US smartphone market with the highest market share among its competitors. According to the report presented by the data analytics company, the strong sales of Apple Inc.’s iPhone 6 and 6 plus helped the company improve its market share dramatically.

The respective market shares of the smartphone competitors as of April 2015 are as follows: Apple: 43.1%, followed by Samsung with 28.6%, LG maintaining its third position with 8.4% market share and ultimately Motorola and HTC with 4.9% and 3.7% respectively.

The gainers include Apple and LG with Apple Inc’s share increasing from 41.3% in January, 2015 to 43.1% in April and LG’s market share surging from 8% to 8.4%. While the losers on the market were Samsung, Motorola and HTC.

According to Apple CEO Tim Cook, the number of people who switched their phones to the iPhone were the highest in the company’s second quarter of the fiscal year. This major rise in sales of the technology giant’s treasured smartphone led to the 1.8% upsurge of its market share.

On the other side, LG secured the third position once again with improved sales in the North American region in the first quarter of fiscal year 2015. Its sales increased by 66% compared to the previous year. It is being said that LG grabbed a bigger bite of the market pie at the expense of Samsung’s declining sales. Since the release of Samsung Galaxy S6 in April, 2015, the South-Korean company has witnessed a continuous downtrend shrinking its share from 29.3% to 28.6%.

Motorola, occupying the fourth spot in the smartphone list witnessed a decline in the share form 5.2% to 4.9% and HTC observed a similar downfall from 3.8% to 3.7%.

Compared to the previous month’s results of comScore, the smartphones have held the same positions and the same companies have experienced the increase (Apple and LG) and decrease (Samsung, Motorola, HTC) in the market share with the exception of HTC which, contrary to the latest results had escalated by 0.1%.

Apart from the smartphone handset market share, the phone operating system market data suggests that Apple lagged behind Samsung where Android is leading with 52.8% share(up by 0.2%) compared to iOS with 41.7%(down by 0.1%) of the market. This was followed by Windows, Blackberry and ultimately Symbian holding the fifth position. According to comScore results, the top three among the ten most popular apps are Facebook, YouTube and Google Search. Also, approximately 76.9% penetration in the US smartphone market was shown by the comScore results during the period ending.
